Will the applications damage my flowers garden, or other desirable plants?

NO, We employ full-time trained Turf Specialists certified by the Iowa Department of Agriculture. They apply products with low pressure precision equipment in droplet form. They keep the spray 6 inches to a foot away from any desirable plants. You will have a border of weeds in these areas.

Will the application have any harmful affects on people or pets?

It is our opinion, that when used according to label directions, lawn care products pose no unreasonable risk to man or the environment. To further reduce risk, please keep all people and pets off sprayed areas until dry.

Will rainfall ruin the effectiveness of the application?

Rain actually helps the fertilizer, insecticide and pre-emergent annual grass controls by activating them. Broadleaf weed control is not reduced by rain unless heavy rainfall occurs immediately following an application. If this occurs and weeds are not dying after 2 weeks call us and we will reapply the broadleaf control at no charge.

Why are repeat applications of weed controls necessary during the year?

Broadleaf weed controls kill only weeds that are up and actively growing. They do not prevent weeds from germination. Broadleaf weeds geminate at various times of the year depending on their life cycle (warm season vs. cool season weeds) and favorable germinating conditions. Also certain hard to kill weeds require more than one consecutive application to get effective control.

Why do you only guarantee 90-98% control?

Control is lost by raking, sodding, pets digging, earthworm activity or anything that brings seeds above the pre-emergence barrier we apply. Also control is lost in bare areas and when poor mowing practices are followed.

When is the optimum time to apply the Early Spring Application?

Our program has been designed to give you the same superior results, whether the first application is made March 15th, May 15th or anytime between.

Why don't you control Tall Fescue and other perennial weeds?

There is no selective control for perennial grass weeds. Any chemical that will kill perennial grass weeds will also kill your desirable perennial bluegrass.

How do I pay?

An invoice, a return envelope, and directions are left on your door after each application. Payment is due when you receive the invoice. We have a simple credit policy, NO PAY-NO SPRAY! No further applications will be made until charges for the previous applications have been paid. It is important that you keep your account current so that the timing of our applications are not disrupted by a past due account.

Why do you use expensive slow release Nitrogen while your competitors use cheaper fast release Nitrogen?

Each time we spray your lawn the solution contains slow release Nitrogen. We spend the extra money for slow release Nitrogen because it provides benefits for your lawn:

  • Even growth and color throughout the season.

  • Helps avoid excessive surges of growth, which increases mowing and reduce the turfs resistance to heat, drought, and disease.

  • Prevents burn (dehydration of the turf during hot dry spells).

  • Keeps the nitrogen from leaching out of the root zone.

Why do you apply an optional dry granular insecticide and fertilizer to my lawn in the summer?

The insecticide is more effective and long lasting when applied as a granule than when sprayed. the insecticide serves two purposes.

  1. It protects your lawn from one generation of sod webworms and other surface feeding turf damaging insects.

  2. It thins out nuisance insects such as chiggers, fleas, crickets, ants, and grasshoppers making your lawn more enjoyable for you and your family.

Do you control fungus diseases?

NO. Due to the fact that fungus diseases damage only one in twenty lawns, and a preventive program is prohibitive in cost, treatment for diseases IS NOT a regular part if our program. Our fertility program is designed to increase your turf's resistance to diseases.

When should I reseed my lawn?

The best time to seed is from August 15th to October 1st. Call your applicator for advice on the timing to avoid damaging your new seeding with weed killer. Avoid spring and summer seeding by sodding any bare spots.

Should I de-thatch, aerate, or power rake my lawn?

If you have a thatch layer of more than 1/2 inch or your ground is compacted we recommend core aeration. We check your lawns thatch layer each summer and will notify you if it should be aerated.

Do I need to be at home when you make applications?

NO.

Is white grub control a part of your regular programs?

NO. If white grubs have been a problem in your lawn, an additional grub control application is recommended in mid summer. We guarantee control at the same price as a regular application.

Do I need to sign a new agreement each year?

No, our agreement continues until you notify us in writing to stop servicing your lawn.

Do I need a Late Fall application?

Yes, we recommend the late fall application if:

  • this is your first time on our program

  • you regularly remove your grass clippings

  • your lawn still has a thin stand of grass

  • you are seeding your lawn

  • you wish to have the thickest, greenest, healthiest lawn possible
